Stephens Creek Crossing Hoodie Giveaway

We’d like to reach out to our neighbors at Stephens Creek Crossing by giving out hooded sweatshirts before school begins this fall. Bring only new, hooded sweatshirts, please, for ages 2-20. Donation boxes will be in the lobby Sundays, July 23 through October 15.

FOCUS Furniture Giveaway

In late September each year, many international students arrive at Portland State University. One of the ways we welcome them is by partnering with FOCUS to give them household items.

Here are some ways you can get involved:

  • Collect “used-but-usable” household items. Think of what you needed to furnish your first apartment: desk, chair, tables/chairs, dresser, book cases, lamps, radio, dishes, pots/pans, microwave, etc. We have cards with tax deduction information from GPBC available for all donations. We cannot collect or distribute mattresses or upholstered furniture at the Giveaway. Also, please do not bring: clothing, collectibles, Christmas (or other) decorations, or things which are broken, defective or otherwise ugly or useless!
  • Bring items you have collected to GPBC from Sunday, September 16, through Thursday, September 21, during office hours (Monday thru Thursday 9am-4:30pm).
  • Set up items in the auditorium on Friday, September 22, from 9am until we’re done so we’ll be ready for our “shoppers”.
  • Assist international students choose and then transport their new “stuff” back to their apartments/dorms on Saturday, September 23, from 9:00am to 12:00pm. This is an awesome opportunity to make a connection with an international student. It’s most helpful if you have a truck, van or SUV.
  • Clean up, which usually takes about half an hour.

Manna Ministry

Those who respond to immediate needs such as a hospitalization are often taking a meal with them for the family. Our pastoral staff typically leaves the office to go directly to the hospital. We'd like to have meals ready to go in our church kitchen freezer. This would enable us to serve needs nearly instantly. If you are making an entree or a dessert for your freezer, think about making TWO! If you would like to help, but cooking just isn't your thing, you can always donate $$ for someone to shop for a meal, or pick up a prepared meal that can be easily frozen. NO donation is too small. Contact Laura McDonald.

We serve more than 50 families a week with our Saturday food pantry. Do you have a heart for serving in a practical and life-giving way? We need volunteers to sort food, hand it out, clean up afterwards, or simply smile and warmly welcome each who come through our doors.

We have four teams that volunteer together one Saturday per month to operate The Pantry. Positions on these teams are available in varying commitments of time ranging between 2-3.5 hours and run between the hours of 11am-2:30pm. Volunteer positions could include sorting and storing incoming food from participating grocers, setting up for the food distribution, and helping our guests receive food and our encouragement. Join this dynamic and growing ministry by contacting Janice at or by calling the church office.

Hospitality: Ushers

Are you good at lending a hand? Being a friendly face? We could really use a few more people like you to help usher on Sunday mornings. Ushers help people to their seats, collect the offering, pass out Bibles and occasionally communion and answer questions. If you are interested, contact Doug Davidson at . Scheduling is entirely up to your availability and frequency with which you desire to serve in this capacity.

Hospitality: Greeters

Are you looking for a place to minister that makes a big difference? Volunteer to work once a month as a greeter at one of the entrances to our building on Sunday mornings. What is required? A smile.
