God is in Control

Posted by Sally Bland on

This election season was a crazy one! Just get on Facebook you can see the level of fear people have for the future of our country. It breaks my heart to see our country so divided and I find myself asking how we got here? People are expressing anger towards anyone who has a different opinion than they do. Sadly, even Christians are joining in on this hate dialogue. The one thing that can defeat this hostile environment is our faith. Our faith in Jesus can help us defeat the growing anxiety of the world because we recognize God has the ultimate power:

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
– Romans 8:38-39

God loves us and nothing can separate us from His love. He will never leave us. We don’t need to fear what will come because we know God is in control. As Christians we know this world is only temporary and we look forward to spending eternity with God! Any pain or hard times we face in this world is nothing compared to the joy and peace we will have in Heaven! Whatever happens over the next four years, nothing can take away the love God has for us!

This week Wayne will guide us through Acts 3:1-10 as we discover how faith enabled Peter to heal a man who had been lame from birth. Our nation needs spiritual and emotional healing that can only come through faith in Christ Jesus. Whether you are happy or upset with the election results, you can trust God to use all circumstances to bring about a renewed hunger for a relationship with Jesus amongst our nation.

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
-- 1 Timothy 2:1-2

We are instructed to pray for our leaders, regardless of whether we support their politics or not. I encourage you to pray for the spiritual life of our current and future leaders and pray they will allow God to guide them as they lead our country. I pray God will give you peace because He is our true leader and has ultimate authority over all of us.
